The Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF) welcomes its two new Scientific Chairpersons, Prof. Dr. Jessica Fintzen and Prof. Dr. Albrecht Schmidt, after the departure of Prof. Dr. Anna Wienhard, who previously held the position.

In the future, the HLFF will have two Scientific Chairs, one for each of the two disciplines represented and promoted by the foundation.

Prof. Dr. Jessica Fintzen will guide the HLFF in scientific matters related to mathematics, including helping shape the scientific program of the Heidelberg Laureate Forum, the annual event which forms the centerpiece of the foundation’s work. Fintzen is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Bonn. She has been the recipient of the European Mathematical Society Prize, an ERC Starting Grant, won the AMS Cole Prize in Algebra and received a Royal Society University Research Fellowship. She has also been on the HLF Scientific Committee since 2023.

Prof. Dr. Albrecht Schmidt will be her counterpart for matters concerning computer science. Schmidt is a Professor of Computer Science at LMU Münich, where he is the chair of the group on “Human-Centered Ubiquitous Media.” He is a member of the German Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina), a fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and a Member of the Committee for the ACM Prize in Computing, one of the prizes celebrated at the HLF.

“On behalf of the whole team at the HLFF, we look forward to working together with Prof. Dr. Jessica Fintzen and Prof. Dr. Albrecht Schmidt to forge an exciting next chapter of the HLF,” said Dr. Agnes Szmolenszky, Executive Director and Member of the Board of the HLFF.

Background
The Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF) organizes the annual Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF), a networking conference where 200 outstanding young researchers in mathematics and computer science interact with the recipients of the most renowned prizes in the fields. Another primary focus of the Foundation is turning the public’s attention toward mathematics and computer science, not only to awaken but to strengthen their interest, such as through events and exhibitions.  The HLFF was established and is funded by the German foundation Klaus Tschira Stiftung (KTS), which promotes natural sciences, mathematics and computer science.
