As Peer Bork and Ewan Birney take up interim leadership of EMBL, the organisation announces additional changes in site leadership
EMBL’s six sites in Barcelona, Grenoble, Hamburg, Heidelberg, Hinxton, and Rome contribute to the organisation’s five missions in many different ways. As Peer Bork and Ewan Birney step up to lead EMBL until the appointment of the next permanent EMBL Director General, we are pleased to announce the following changes in the leadership of individual sites.
Jan Korbel becomes Interim Head of Site for EMBL Heidelberg. In this role, he will work with internal and external stakeholders, facilitate relationships and collaborations within the national research and political landscape, and support coordination between science, administration, and operations at the site.
At the same time, Jo McEntyre takes on responsibility as Interim Director of EMBL-EBI. In this role, she will continue to strengthen EMBL-EBI’s global data resources, support cutting-edge research, and foster international collaboration.
EMBL is also pleased to announce Thomas Schneider as Head of EMBL Hamburg and Cornelius Gross as Head of EMBL Rome, following their respective periods as interim site leads. They will continue to build on the strengths of the sites in the areas of structural biology and X-ray imaging and epigenetics and neurobiology, respectively.
Alongside James Sharpe in Barcelona and Kristina Djinovic-Carugo in Grenoble, all site heads will drive forward EMBL’s missions across the organisation and for our 29 member states, often in collaboration with our numerous local and international partners.
