The oceans are crucial to our planet. We need them to survive, yet our actions are putting them under pressure. When children and families discover what makes the oceans so important and explore the wonders below the waves, they can take part in caring for them in everyday ways.
Join us for this year’s two-part Oceans Day Celebrations that will transform our library into a lively sea-inspired space!
The second day (Fri, June 12) is dedicated to all young explorers ages 8–13.
Enjoy our vibrant Young Readers’ Book Fair (12:00–18:00) by Independent Usborne Partner Sandra’s Bookshop with a carefully curated selection of books that showcase the magic of our oceans and highlight their importance to our planet. All books have been specially selected for curious minds in their tweens and early teens.
In the afternoon, aspiring young scientists are invited to join our Plankton Party (16:00–18:00) as we dive into the hidden world of the ocean’s tiniest drifters: Together with experts from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), we’ll take part in a vibrant mix of engaging talks and hands-on activities that turn complex science into pure discovery. Everything culminates in a lively Quiz, where kids can put their new knowledge to the test and celebrate what they’ve learned.
Join us for a journey through the drifting worlds beneath the waves!
